Cono Handle at Super Salone

Inside the Flight D.154.5 installation curated by Ron Gilad for Molteni at the Super Salone, you will be able to see two original Cono handles. In the mid-1950s, the fruitful professional relationship between Ernesto Olivari and Gio Ponti led to the development of three models of handles: “Lama”, “Cono” and “Anello”.

The Cono handle was used for the Villa Planchart (1953-1957) in Caracas. Its profile plastically reproduces the diagram of the forces exerted on the handle and minimizes the use of the material; its main feature is that of having the shape of the rosette on which the handle rotates in continuity with that of the hub: an aesthetically unique body. Cono went into production in 1954 and appears in the Olivari catalog from 1960 to 1970.
